Creating a Christmas Card or Greetings Card

Tutor: Ann Marie Whitton

Come and learn the craft of linocut printmaking. Where you will achieve the skills to design, cut and print a lively lino plate to make a beautiful Christmas card or greetings card of your choice.

The Tutor:

Ann Marie Whitton is an experienced printmaker who studied at The University of Hertfordshire, then taught adult evening classes at Sandringham School and Oaklands College. Ann Marie works from her garden studio based in St Albans, exhibits locally, and sells her work on line. Much of her print work is inspired by nature, landscape, still life, animals and people. She loves to print on a variety of different paper surfaces, her favourite being tissue paper.

Ann Marie will teach you how to transfer your card design onto a lino surface, how to cut it out and print with colourful inks onto assorted card and papers.

All Materials (lino and cutting tools) will be provided for you to take home. Just bring:
  • Pictures of your choice to base your designs & a sketchbook to work out design.
  • A soft 2B pencil and Sharpie pen or a marker pen (for drawing your design onto the lino)
  • Some blank greetings cards or card to print on (no bigger that 6×4 cm - square or rectangle)
  • If you have some assorted lightweight papers, such as old envelopes (even brown ones), tissue paper and/or wrapping papers, they are lovely to print on, please bring them along too (optional)
  • Bring your own cutting tools or inks if you have any.
  • An apron
  • Your lunch and a mug for drinks which will be provided.
